Tokyo Olympics 2020 has the potential to be the best Olympics in Indian sports history. Since the Rio Olympics, the number of possible medal winners and the number of disciplines in which India can compete has increased significantly.
One cannot help but be captivated by our athletes as they put out their best efforts to make a final cut into the Indian contingent in the year running up to the world’s most renowned quadrennial spectacle, the Olympics. And the significance of this year for the Indian contingent cannot be overstated.
India at Olympics-
Neeraj Chopra
Event: Men’s Javelin Throws
Date: Qualification on August 4 | Final on August 7
Notable Attributes
Although due to his injuries, he had to hold on for 2019. But this Olympic year, Chopra’s consistency is remarkable. His practice followed by throwing the javelin on a routine basis of about 85m marks. In performance-based games, victory is like a swinging pendulum. It is a hit-and-miss game if anything around the target changes even by a bit. If he gives his best or even better than that, equal to or more than 88.07m, nothing can stop him from hosting the flag in the finals.
Current Accomplishments
Before the Olympics, he played in the Kuortane Games in Finland, in which he qualified for the third position with a fantastic throw of 86.79m.
Ravi Dahiya
Event: Men’s Freestyle Wrestling (57kg)
Date: R-16 to SF on August 4 | Repechage and medal match on August 5
Notable Attributes
He has been a bronze medalist at the world championship. He has won twice at the Asian championship. After all, Ravi Dahiya holds very high Endurance and has celebrated technical skills for his domain which makes a win- a win situation. Also, he is considered an all-rounder for his category. If he plays his cards well, he can make it to the podium.
Current accomplishments
Ravi Dahiya holds consecutive gold medals for the Asian championship, which he has completed recently. But it’s tough to say that this will be a forte or not because no wrestler from the Asian rings will compete in Tokyo.
Bajrang Punia
Event: Men’s Freestyle Wrestling (65kg)
Date: R-16 to SF on August 6 | Repechage and medal match on August 7
Notable Attributes
Bajrang has shown consistent remarkable performances throughout the Olympic years. Also, he is a back-to-back world medalist and a celebrated Asian games titleholder for the last four years. Certainly, Endurance and stamina are his swords that are enough to smash his opponents.
Current Accomplishments
Bajrang Punia has won bronze at the World Championships in 2013, silver at the Commonwealth and Asian Games in 2014, and gold at the Commonwealth Games in 2016 and 2017. The Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) decided that Bajrang Punia and Sushil Kumar were considerably better than the other home contenders in their respective divisions and gave them a green ticket to the Asian Games 2018 without a trial.
Vinesh Phogat

India at Olympics – Time to Shine
All our contingent are powerful enough to give a tough fight and hoist the tricolor to the highest, but the beauty of the Olympics lies in its uncertainty so let’s cross our fingers for the best.
